Good Coffee in Lisbon
Finding the best coffee shops in Lisbon, well anywhere really, can be difficult. There are a lot of cute cafés everywhere in the city. I love how the Portuguese enjoy an espresso in the sun and eat a pastel de nata but nothing beats a good flat white with high acidity for me. If you’re also a coffee lover and you’re on the hunt for a good speciality in Lisbon I got some recommendations for you.
How about Coffee
I have mentioned How about Coffee in other posts of mine before, but it’s because I’m a big fan of this place. I love how they make their coffee, the price is decent and since I was living in the area the location was amazing. It’s located right next to the Park in Alameda so you can also grab your coffee to go and sit outside in the sun, it’s wonderful.
Besides great coffee, they also have a separate coworking space.
The Folks Sé
The Folks has a few different locations in Lisbon. One of them is close to the famous Sé de Lisboa Cathedral in the old town of Alfama. The area itself is worth a visit since it’s Lisbon’s oldest still existing district (other areas were destroyed by the 1755 earthquake and the following tsunami and fire).
The first Folks was opened in 2022 and since then they have opened 5 more locations in Lisbon. I discovered this café when I had a few friends visiting and we were on our way to the Mercado de Santa Clara in Alfama. It’s a second-hand market, located behind the Igreja de São Vicente de Fora Church. The market is open Tuesdays and Saturdays and worth a visit.
The Folks Sé is around the corner from Sé de Lisboa Cathedral, so if you’re heading todwards the market or generallly Alfama this is a wonderful spot for a coffee. We decided to get it to go and then stop at the Miradouro de Santa Luzia before visiting the Mercado de Santa Clara.
The coffee was wonderful and the staff was super lovely.
Fábrica Coffee Roasters
There are quite a few Fábrica Coffee Roasters locations in Lisbon. They have formed direct trade partnerships with farmers and they are roasting the coffee directly on-site in Lisbon.
I have been to a few different location in Lisbon and always greatly enjoyed the atmosphere and their luscious coffee.
Besides offering flavourful coffee in their cafés, Fabrica Coffee Roasters also offer an online subscription service (if you’re interested you can find more about that here). The shipping is free and every month you get the chance to try a wonderful selection of two different coffees. You can select either an espresso or filter coffee bundle.
The Folks Santos
The Folks Santos belongs to the same owners as the Folks Sé. But I loved how beautiful and unique the location in Santos is. The interior is decorated with white pillows, which gives the whole café a trendy vibe. They also have a flower shop as part of the café (which kinda is the dream of every girl).
They also recently announced that the Folks is going to open their own roastery soon.
Coffee in Brew
This café is located close to Marquês de Pombal and is a two floor shop, quite small but has a wonderful flair. Coffee in Brew not only offers rich and delicious coffee and tasty bakery but they also have latte art workshops which you can buy through their website.
Similar to most other cafés they have a laptop free zone/tables where you are not supposed to bring your laptop to.
The Layers Coffee
A friend of mine who is a barista suggested to visit The Layers Coffee. It’s quite a new café right next to the Eduardo VII Park in Lisbon. It’s a rather small café but has a lot of different types of seats to sit and the interior is colorful and intriguing.
They also have one big table which is great to bring your laptop to and work at. Besides aromatic and smooth coffee, they have a bunch of brunch and lunch foods and a wide selection of cakes.
Acento Coffee
I discovered Acento Coffee through the findyourtribe app (formerly secret tab), which gives you a ton of benefits, events and free drinks and coffees each day. I saw Acento Coffee was included one day and I went to get my free coffee for the day and it the coffee was delightful.
The café itself is quite small and only offers a few tables inside and around 2-3 tables outside. So it might not be the place you linger around for a long time, however, the coffee is flavourful and well-balanced.
Mugs and Hugs Café
This one is a little different from all the other cafés on this list. Then the Mugs and Hugs Café offers Turkish Coffee. They also have other traditional coffees but these are definitely not speciality coffee. However, if you’re up to try something new you can go and have a traditional turkish coffee at this place. The owner of the café is also super friendly and showed me how he made the coffee.
Thank You Mama
Thank You Mama is not only a great place to have coffee at, but also to cowork. (If you’re looking for laptop-friendly cafés go check this post of mine).
I love how Thank You Mama has a vibrant and modern vibe, but also that they allow you to bring dogs inside. This café is definitely one of my favourite places to go. Besides the coffee, they also make really good pastries and sell it for a decent price (around 4 Euros which I think is quite fair). I have been to places where they would ask 6-7 Euros for a pieces of cake.
