Lisbon a City With Many Rooftops
Lisbon has a lot to offer, great weather, good food, friendly people.. the list goes on. One thing Lisbon does well is rooftop bars. The city has some of the best rooftop bars I’ve personally visited (and I’ve seen a few). If you’re looking for the best rooftop bars in Lisbon, keep reading. I got a list of fancy places where you can show off your nicest dressed, but also some rooftop bars with cool and chill vibes. I’m sure you’ll find at least something you like.
Carmo Rooftop
This Rooftop is located close to Baixa Chiado metro station. It’s only a few minutes away, however, it is a bit hidden behind the archaeology museum.
During the summer they have an open-air cinema next to the bar where you can get tickets for around 14 Euro. (Check on https://www.cinesociety.pt). There’s also a restaurant that belongs to Carmo, however, so far I’ve only been to the rooftop bar itself, so I can’t really speak about how the restaurant is. I’ve heard good things about it though.
Generally, you don’t have as nice of a view as from some other rooftops, nevertheless, this is a beautiful rooftop to visit. The atmosphere is just great and they sometimes have parties and events at the rooftop. There’s also something special about being between the roofs of other buildings. Plus you have a great view of the “Elevador de Santa Justa” for free.
Tip: It can get quite windy there, even in summer so make sure to bring a jacket or if you’re watching an open-air movie, grab one of the blankets that they offer.
Skybar
The Skybar is on top of the Tivoli Hotel and has an incredible view over Lisbon. It’s quite a nice place and people do dress up when they go there.
Go a Lisboa
This bar is not directly in the center of Lisbon but it’s worth the little journey to Alcântara. If you’re staying in Lisbon you can either take the tram, train or bus to Alcântara and walk from there. Alternatively, Bolts or Ubers are not that expensive either.
This place is incredibly nice for dinners. If you have a dinner reservation they will seat you at a table. If you’re just there for drinks they will let you take any seat in the beanbag area. Although it looks super cute I have to say these beanbags were not the most comfortable, especially not with a dress and heels. But the atmosphere of the place is really nice and there are these nets in which you can lie and hang out (but again not the easiest with a dress or heels).
But from Go a Lisboa you have an incredible view of the “The Ponte 25 de Abril” bridge (the famous red bridge).
Zé dos Bois gallery
You’ll find this rooftop bar in the middle of Bairro Alto (a popular bar and club neighbourhood in Lisbon). Enter the Gallery and walk up the stairs. There’s an inside as well as an outside area. This rooftop bar is less fancy than some of the other places on this list and the drink selection is rather limited. But this place has really chill vibes and you can see Bairro Alto from above. The outside area has cute fairy lights and it can be a great place to socialize with people you don’t know, which is something that’s not as easy in some of the other places because you often get seated and served at a table.
Tip: Make sure to bring a few coins in cash for the deposit of the cups. They serve their drinks (like wine and beer) in these cool metal cups. Apparently, people kept stealing them (because they are really cool), so they introduced a cash-only deposit that you get back when you return the cup.
Topo Martim Moniz
I’ve mentioned this rooftop bar already in a post about cocktail bars in Lisbon, but since this is one of my favourite places I have to mention it again. I love how this bar is almost a little insider tip since the entrance is kinda hidden. It has such a chill vibe but is still a nice bar. It’s a great spot for a date because the view is magical and it has some cozy spaces inside. Aaand the prices are affordable (Portuguese-salary friendly).
Hotel Mundial
This hotel is also in Martim Moniz (like Topo). Like Skybar the Hotel Mundial Lisbon Rooftop bar is a bit fancier and making a reservation can help, although I’ve always been able to get a seat even without a reservation. I’ve noticed though that the age of the visitors is a little higher than in other places. Maybe that’s because a lot of people that stay at the hotel go to the bar, who knows?
To get to the rooftop bar you need to walk straight through the hotel lobby and the bar, which they have on the ground floor and you will find two elevators on the right side. The rooftop bars main view is towards the water but you can also walk a little around the rooftop and get a different view.
It’s a nice place for a relaxed drink, however, they close every day at 11pm, which in my opinion is quite early.
Entretanto Rooftop Bar @ Hotel Chiado
This is another rooftop that belongs to a hotel. It’s one of my favourite views but the bar itself is nothing really special. It’s not a bad bar and the view really is great. If you’re looking for a nice glass of wine and a great view this is the place to visit.
I’ve been to this place for afternoon tea, which was quite mid (I’ve lived in the UK for almost a year so my standards are pretty high). But the drinks have been good there so far.
Park Rooftop
Located close to Bica and Bairro Alto, you can also see the bridge from this rooftop bar. From Go a Lisboa you have a closer view of the bridge, however, Park Rooftop in Lisbon is way closer to the city centre (basically a few minutes from Baixa-Chiado metro station by foot). To get to this bar you have to walk through a parking garage and take the stairs up. There’s also an elevator, which you might wanna take since the bar is on the 6th floor (I’ve walked so far and was fine usually, the Rooftop The Art Inn Lisbon was a lot worse). Besides a great view of the bridge and the city, you also get to enjoy the chill atmosphere with lots of plants and a cool vibe. There’s also a dance floor which can get quite crowded later on.
Mensagem – Restaurante e Bar Panorâmico
Like many other rooftops, this place has a great view. If you want to see the sunset from here though, you’ll miss out, since the Rooftop is only directed towards the east (that’s actually the case with other places like Topo as well). But you can see the castle from this rooftop and they have a really nice selection of Portuguese foods and great drinks.
Overall a great place for a nice meal and a fancy drink.
Rooftop The Art Inn Lisbon
This is a place a friend of mine wanted to try for ages. It’s close to Rossio and belongs to the Art Inn Lisbon. To get to the rooftop you will have to climb a lot of stairs (we couldn’t spot an elevator so unfortunately if this is an issue for you, try some of the other rooftops, most of them have elevators). But the view is super nice from this rooftop, which makes the stairs worth it.
We tried their cocktails and mocktails and they were all really good. The only downside is that they wouldn’t make us coffee or hot chocolate (it was kind of freezing when we went). Apparently, their coffee machine breaks often. However, they brought us some blankets.
If you made it this far – thank you! I hope you enjoyed this list. I made a Google Maps with all my favourite places in Lisbon. Go check it out!
