Cocktail Bars in Lisbon You Need To Try

Find Nice Cocktails in Lisbon

Lisbon is a city with lively nightlife and there’s always something to do. If you’re looking for cheap drinks definitely go and try Bairro Alto (in some places you can get a beer for like 1,5 Euro!). But this post is for the people looking for a nicer cocktail place in Lisbon. Then Lisbon has a lot to offer. If you’re looking for a nice bar to take a date on or just a place to go with your girls, there are some of the best cocktail bars Lisbon.

4 Caravelas

Pink Street (Rua Cor de Rosa) is a place where you’ll definitely find some nice bars. The street is located very close to Cais do Sodré and is generally very popular. One of the first bars I ever tried there was “4 Caravelas”. It has a calm and cosy vibe and lots of nice cocktails to try. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the drinks were delicious.

Monkey Mash

If you are looking for fancy cocktails I would really recommend checking out Monkey Mash. They have some of the best cocktails in Lisbon. There is also the speakeasy bar “Red Frog” in the same building, but for that, you need a reservation.

Monkey Mash’s interior is colourful and comfy and on their menu, each of their signature drinks is portrayed as a movie poster. I ordered the “Flashy Flashy” drink and they served it with a snack made out of dried fruit and ginger (at least that’s what I remember them telling me). The server also explained that you’re supposed to eat a bite of the snack and then take a sip of the drink to bring out all of the flavours.

This bar is definitely a good place to try new things instead of ordering your usual drink.

Boca Linda

This is technically a Mexican restaurant but I had to add this to the list because the drinks were awesome. And because the whole restaurant had kind of a cocktail bar vibe. My friend and I sat directly at the bar and enjoyed some tacos while trying different drinks. My favourite was “Mezcal Mule”, which was basically a Moscow Mule but with Mezcal. It’s definitely worth trying!

Pavilhão Chinês (Chinese Pavilion)

This is one of my favourite places for a quiet conversation and a relaxed cocktail. The bar is so much bigger than you would expect from the outside (it just keeps going and going).

The Chinese Pavilion has not only a big interior but also awesome decorations. There are many small trinkets and pieces everywhere, which gives the bar a unique and elevated look. Besides the regular cocktails, they also serve a number of more unique drinks. With around 10 – 12 Euros per cocktail, it’s rather pricey, but it’s definitely worth a visit.

The bar is also not too far from “Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara”, which is a beautiful lookout platform.

This Cocktail is called “Magic Star”. It’s made with banana liquor and tastes amazing. If you’re there, try it.

Livraria-Bar Menina e Moça

This bar is a bookstore bar directly on Pink Street. You can not only get drinks and food but also buy books. The atmosphere at Menina e Moça is cosy and it’s often a go-to place for my friends and me when we don’t know where else to go on Pink Street. The only downside to the bar is maybe their iron chairs, however, at the end of the bar (inside) are two big comfortable armchairs.

o Bom o Mau o Vialo

The name of the bar means “the good, the bad, the villain” and the interior has a tropical flair. The bar is super close to Pink Street and usually is pretty busy. It has nice little areas to sit down and different rooms and two different bars.

The bartenders seemed very professional and skilled. We ordered some Moscow Mules and they were incredible!

Restaurante & Bar Animal

I enjoy trying out hotel bars once in a while. Although it’s a hit-and-miss. This bar has a beautiful outside area. The bar itself has an animal theme and all their signature drinks are named after different animals. The staff served us free popcorn and water with the drinks.

Mama Shelter

This restaurant/bar is located close to Marquês de Pombal. During summer Mama Shelter also has a rooftop. I haven’t tried the food there yet but the drinks are amazing. During the week the bar sometimes has DJs and the vibes are just great. Everyone seems to have a good time at Mama Shelter.

The interior is colourful and in a maximalist style, but everything works together so well. I tried one of their signature cocktails called “Mama Loves You”. It is a vodka-based drink and it was super delicious. Another time when I was there I tried their Piña Colada but I was not really that convinced to be honest (I’ve been trying to find a great Piña Colada in Lisbon but so far I haven’t really been successful).

If you’re looking for an elevated but lively place give Mama Shelter a go.

Rocco

Negroni-lovers this one is for you. (Okay even if you don’t like Negronis you will love this place). Rocco is a restaurant and a bar with not only a great atmosphere but also delicious drinks. Some of them are Negronis, they even have a few different options besides the original Negroni. But the original is definitely my go-to at Rocco. I have tried the Negroni 0% which is an alcohol-free option and it tasted very similar to an original Negroni, just a little bit sweeter.

If you decide to go here make sure to dress up because it is a rather upscale place. For a reservation at the restaurant, you will probably have to wait a few weeks. The interior of this place is so elegant and makes Rocco one of the best bars in Lisbon (in my opinion).

Topo Martim Moniz

Okay, this is one of my absolute favourite places to go. It’s a rooftop in Martim Moniz. The entrance I kind of hidden in a shopping mall and you have to take the elevator up to the 6th floor. But the view from this place (during the day but also at night) is absolutely gorgeous.

It’s not as fancy as other places on the list but rather has a cool or even alternative vibe to it. Depending on what time you go, you can meet some pretty interesting people. Also, inside they have some old school arcade games. If you’re looking for cool bars in Lisbon, this is the place.

Another reason why I love going to Topo are the prices. A glass of wine at Topo is really affordable with around 5 Euros and they also make delicious cocktails and mocktails.

Pensão Amor

This Bar on Pink Street actually used to be a brothel. The pictures and little nick-nacks on the walls and the stripper pole in one of the rooms are the only things that are still a reminder of that though. Earlier in the evening or during the week this bar is a nice place to sit down and have a conversation in one of the comfortable armchairs or to try your dance skill on the pole. Later at night or during the weekend this bar becomes a club with great music and a full dance floor.

It’s quite popular and usually, there’s a long line in front of the entrance. I prefer to go earlier in the night or during the week because I prefer the chill vibe of this bar over it being super crowded. But whatever you prefer, you’ll find it here.

But: If you’re tall just be careful when using the bathroom. The roof in the bathroom (located on the first floor) is crazy low. I’ve been to this place in heels and had about two fingers between my head and the roof.

The bartenders at Pensão Amor are really skilled and sometimes even give you a little show. They even do great Mocktails.

I know it can be hard to find good bars in Lisbon, if you don’t know the city very well but I hope with these recommendations you will find at least one place you like.

Mona Verde

This place is a beautiful rooftop close to the Avenida metro station. Mona Verde seems rather unsuspecting from the outside, but once you take the elevator to the 8th floor you are greeted by a friendly hostess who takes you to a gorgeous rooftop bar. The other staff is really friendly and attentive and made us feel very well taken care of.

I recommend making a reservation if you’re planning on visiting. The bar overall is an amazing date spot or a great place to grab some drinks with the girls. But they also have events with music and drinks on the weekends.

I tried one of their signature drinks, which was delicious – but their espresso martini is to die for.
